Apple Watch Predictions

Gruber added some analysis on the Apple Watch today.

I'm still highly skeptical of it as a product. Knowing everything I know about it today, I don't have a strong (nor moderate) desire to get one. I haven't worn a watch for over a decade, and it doesn't feel natural to have something strapped to my wrist anymore. Most of the people I know don't wear a watch either.

It occurred to me that the Apple Watch may not be positioned primarily for the the North American market. The idea of paying $20,000 for a gold watch is way out of touch with the “99%” cultural mindset that currently prevails. But this is directly opposite in emerging markets like China, where everyone is Nouveau Riche. It's quite possible that the Edition series becomes the dominant product line in those markets.

I predict that the Apple Watch will be the first Apple product to sell more in the Rest-of-World vs. the U.S. at launch.
